Seismic Surveys in Energy Exploration

Seismic surveys send sound waves into the ground. Each rock type and geologic feature returns the waves differently. Sensors and recorders on the ground capture the returned vibrations. Supercomputers then process the field data to produce a visual image of what is underground. Geoscientists can now see the results of a seismic survey in 3D, potentially revealing an oil reservoir.
