The Magic of Drilling Mud
TribLive (Blog): I was taken with the mud the moment they told me it could talk.
I had some built-up interest, sure. But its communicative abilities really were the clincher for me.
This is the story of how I explored a drilling rig, discovered drilling mud, and got pretty into it.
It was my first rig tour, where the folks at Consol Energy let me actually climb all over and around the rig and ask their patient rig manager a million questions so I could better understand how it all works. I was, of course, given a thorough safety orientation, was guided around the rig in a very safe and deliberate manner.
